Watched this last night and was really impressed with the line walk, but the whole production was so far over the top that it felt cheesy by the end. There was nothing on TV so the wife and I put this on for the whole 3 hour special (might have only been 2). I just played on my laptop for a bit but the production crew kept hyping up about how there was a problem with the line earlier in the day and they had to add an extra stabalizer, and highlighting all of the things that could go wrong.
They just over dramatized the whole thing. REALLY felt over done considering he was wearing a harness anyway just in case. It was sort of redeeming that it seemed like he didn't even want to wear the harness, but the fact that he was able to talk during the entire tight rope walk along with how thick the rope was really took a lot of the illusion of danger away from me.
To me, if you can talk to a TV crew and put on all of that fake talking to your dad over the headset thing, you're really not doing anything that's too difficult for you. I certainly wouldn't try it, and I probably sound like a jerk, but this guy is so good at this, that it didn't even appear to be a challenge for him.
He came off as super cheesy, and the broadcast seemed to try to emphasize how much danger he was in and that was over the top. The guy has stones though and it was impressive to watch.
