I'll be on.

Do we want to rent a server for the night or just go out into the unwashed masses?

I'm in favor of a rental server... especially if we get 6-8 people playing, then we can get setup for some squad DM or squad Rush.  Should I make a donation through the paypal link and flag it for BF3?

The fact that we now have to contemplate renting a server to play together is ridiculous. Nothing against the idea of rented servers, but by drastically reducing the number of official servers, EA/DICE are almost forcing groups of people who want to play together to rent a server, as otherwise you are at the mercy of the admins who run the rental servers.

Sorry for venting, but as you can tell, I am little ticked off by the direction in which DICE/EA are going with this game.

My thought is if we have less than 6 signed up lets go into a public or another rented server. If we get 8 it makes sense to rent one.

I'm in for Monday.

I'm pretty much in agreement here with the EA/DICE maneuvering to get extra money.  From what I was able to gather, EA has a finite server system that is preferentially allocated to rental servers (go figure, they give preference to the ones they get paid for).  When these servers aren't being rented by individuals they use them as "official" servers.  I don't know that there's an official release on this architecture, but a few posts in some of the BF3 forums/blogs lead me to believe that at least something along these lines is true.

Anyway, I had VERY high hopes that the new patch would dramatically improve my experience with the game (probably too high).  In actuality, I was having a much better time playing on the standard rotating map servers than I was playing post-patch.

I'm on the fence with this one... I WANT To keep playing, and I really enjoy playing with everyone from DBBQ.  However, getting lumped into 1,000 ticket games, wrestling with admins and PAYING to play with my friends is making me rethink this one.  I don't ever play BF3 except on Monday nights, which makes me think that maybe it's time to retire this one.

Any thoughts?  I know that there are others who are frustrated, but is anyone else at the point where they're ready to trade this one in?  I could always go get MW3... :P

Also: I know that I said I would be on tonight, but due to some scheduling changes over the weekend I don't think that will be happening.  If I do make it on, it won't be until late.

I have a MILLION times more fun playing MW3 than I do playing this game. I'm sorry but I just do. I spent a large part of my weekend playing MW3 by myself, something I would NEVER do with BF3.

With Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3 coming out (and I'm sure I'll be picking up Reckoning KoA soon) I've been considering clearing room for other games anyway.

I don't know. Its no secret that I've had a hard time feeling the love for this game.

I should add that even though I am frustrated with this whole rental server thing, I do still like the game and don't mind most of the gameplay changes they have made with the latest patch apart from the tanks now being a little too weak (especially against heli gunners).

However, they really have to do something about the rental servers taking over the browser, especially when we can't even do a proper search to filter them out. Right now, every time I do a general search for conquest servers I get around 90 pages of results, almost all of them rental servers, and then to top it off you find that half of them have ZERO players. With this in mind, I was hoping that many people renting would soon get tired of having nobody on their server and that this would then free up the servers so that we could get some of the official rotations back, but perhaps that is wishful thinking ?

Really not sure what DICE/EA think they are playing at, but I am one of those people who would have probably bought all three of the DLC packs that will be coming out for BF3, but if this continues I very much doubt I will still be playing by the time they come out. Then again, perhaps EA/DICE are making more money from the rental servers and don't really care....

In the meantime, I think I might play Mass Effect 3 on insanity for some stress relief  :D

thinking hurts

Man, sucks to hear that this game has gone downhill so far. EA / DICE really chit the bed with this game, at it's core it's the best MP Team based shooter on the 360 but it's hard to appreciate the core when everything else has gone sideways with this game. How about a night of BFBC2 next week??

PS, as long as the awesome Pitts / Philly game isn't on.

The way the rental servers were added was a screw up, but maybe EA didn't realize everyone and their grandma was going to rent one right out of the starting gate. It has been crazy.

BUTT- Hawk and I got on Monday night went to the search, typed in NORMAL 22 and brought up a bunch of DICE servers, joined the match, played had a great time. It's the same game just different. ;D

Good to hear. I didn't want to be too negative about the game as it still a very good, but I do think they need to clean up the server issue.

Did you say you typed in 'NORMAL 22' as a search term ? Do you pull up conquest servers with that search ? I have been using 'DICE' 'P24' and 'Epic battles' as my keywords and when I do I pull up the official servers but I also get a bunch of rental servers that are using official sounding names.

Also, does anyone know if you can still get on an official server with the full map rotation for conquest because I can't seem to find one anymore (only find 'Epic battles' which has only some of the conquest maps)

I think we got conquest maps yes.  I just tried to mimic the numeric portion of how Dice names their servers.  We still pulled up some rental servers but they played normal rules and such.  You just have to make sure to take a glance at the rules for the server your joining before you join it.   Had a good time playing with Seeker though.  We had some pretty good games.

I look forward to next Monday nights match. I'll try to find a clean server this weekend and bookmark them.
