Do you think this game could dethrone WOW as top dog? Looks like the trailer has mix of actual gameplay footage thrown into it as well.

That trailer looks very nice. I don't think anything will take over WoW, as much as WoW will just kind of fade away. WoW at this point is too big, and other MMO's just don't have the staying power.

IDK, I know a few people who had played WOW for a couple of years and have stopped, went back and stopped again. GW2 doesn't release until sometime in 2011 so the timing may be just right for PCers to end their love affair with WOW.

yeah...i know what you mean Steppe...i just cancelled my account for WoW, as I would play for a few months...then stop...and so on...maybe people are looking for the next big thing...but so far...nothing has the hook that WoW has...but...maybe GW2 or the Star wars MMO Bioware is making will finally kill Wow.

I don't think anything will ever be better than WoW... It's the golden standard of MMO's at this point.  I'm a bit biased, but I just had a WoW relapse and reactivated my account tonight after the newest content patch.  The wife is not happy.  :)

I've never played WOW but have made the same statement regarding PSO, and have heard many poeple say the same thing about Diablo (which I've also never played). There's alwys one better, or more addicting  :P, that will come along sometime. At least on PC, I'm not sure about 360.

I think that someone just has to find a way to do something new with the Genre.  All of the new games that come out try so hard just to clone WoW and put a different story into it.  Unfortunately their interfaces seem to be the downfall of them all.  Nothing even comes close to playing as smoothly as WoW does, and as long as they keep pumping out content like this, I just can't see it ending.

The downfall of those other games was really Technology.  If Diablo 2 has shiny graphics, I'm sure it would still be very popular.  The problem with Diablo was that there was an ending.  You just ran through the same thing over and over again just hunting better loot.  WoW is still all about the loot, but they keep coming up with different things you have to do to get it.

I can't say that I ever played PSO for real.  I had a copy of the game and played for like 30 days, but it was a hard one for me to get into.  I think at that point it was just me being easily discouraged because everyone was so far ahead and I didn't even know what was going on.  I'd ask questions of friends, but they'd respond in PSO terms that I didn't understand, got frustrated and quit.

As much as I say I love WoW... It really is just an easy easy game to play.  Anyone can pick it up and figure out what they're supposed to do, and you don't have to have any skill at all to enjoy it.  I still don't know why it has such mass appeal.  At work I find people all of the time that play that I NEVER would guess were hardcore like 30 hours a week players just by talking to them.  Any idea why the WoW has such mass appeal?  I love it, but I still can't figure out why.

I agree, there is something about WoW that keeps people playing. Not sure what it is...but other MMO's need to bring something new. Maybe Star Wars: The Old Republic will be it...it certainly has the story and lore to back it up, and Bioware games are usually topnotch in that regards, as well as interface. But, who knows...look at Starcraft...after what...12 years now it is still going strong. Maybe it does just boil down to easy and fun.

There's something addictive about leveling and scavaging for better equipment - weapons, armor, etc. It's amazing, we'll run over and over the same mission looking for that rare drop. PSO had the further addiction of developing special "mags" that accompanied your characters and one a month (or so) new missions. We especially went for seasonal missions killing mobs dressed up like Santa.
Doesn't take much to adict us, does it.  :D
